Volunteers’ Week Scotland 2020
Volunteers’ Week takes place annually from the 1st-7th June and is usually a welcome national celebration to recognise all the support and services that volunteers provide. This year it is not possible to celebrate in the normal way but our gratitude to our volunteers is greater than ever.
At Advocacy North East we are so grateful for the time and effort our Community Advocate volunteers spend supporting their clients to ensure that their voices are heard and their views taken into account. It is of immense value that they have continued to work with these clients during the recent challenging and worrying times, ensuring that the most vulnerable people are staying safe and fully supported.
We cannot thank them enough for generously giving up their time to help others with their wellbeing and mental health and it is both laudable and invaluable that they have continued to do so whilst working from home and using alternative forms of communication.
We would also like to express our deepest gratitude to our skilled volunteer Board Members for their time and commitment in continuing to ensure that the governance of our organisation is met, for keeping us safe and for steering us through these difficult and changed times.
Together you all help make such a difference in our communities across Aberdeenshire both now and all year and we would just like to say a huge thank you.
Advocacy North East needs you!
Would you like to help and support people in need? We give our clients a voice if they are having an issue with social or health services.
All advocates complete our five day training course covering such aspects as communication skills, diversity and equality, negotiation skills and self-awareness.
Our volunteer community advocates are supported with regular one-to-one meetings and quarterly peer group support. Once you have joined our team of advocates, we offer frequent on-going training opportunities so you can continue to develop your skills.
If you would like a rewarding and interesting voluntary position, Advocacy North East could be for you! The majority of our volunteers work with us for many years. The reason? They are fulfilled in their advocacy role and very much appreciated for what they do.
Advocacy North East was awarded Volunteer Friendly Award in 2012 and have successfully sustained, year on year, the level
of volunteer support to maintain the award.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer advocate, please contact us for an Application Form and Information Pack.
